    Summary

    About the Position: Serves as a Material Handler (Forklift Operator/ Motor Vehicle Operator) at the Training Support Center independently performing a wide range of warehousing, storage duties. Operates a forklift to issue, receive, and store a wide variety of Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement Systems (MILES) devices.


    Responsibilities

    • Performs duties associated with the receipt, storage, and issue/shipment of a variety of supplies, materials, and equipment.
    • Assembles items for shipment or issue manually, or by non-mechanized conveyances or by material handling equipment.
    • Reports overages, shortages, or damage conditions to higher-grade employee.
    • Receives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments manually, by handcarts and other non-mechanical conveyances, or by operation of material handling equipment.
    • Loads and unloads trucks, assuring that cargo is properly located, distributed, and secured in the vehicle for balance and stability.

The ability to perform common Material Handler tasks including receiving incoming shipments; preparing items for shipment or issue; fork lift operation, and motor vehicle operation. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    Physical Effort: Work requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time; bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 100 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from others. Light physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls of motor vehicles. Moderate physical effort is exerted in operating, turning, backing and controlling heavier vehicles. Fork lift operating requires moderate physical effort in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the fork lift truck and raising, lowering, and tilting the loads being moved. Strain is caused by the vibration of the fork lift truck.

    Working Conditions: Performs assignments indoors in both comfortable and uncomfortable areas, and outdoors in all weather conditions. Work areas maybe hot, dirty, dusty, drafty, inadequately lighted and ventilated, etc. Is subject to cuts, abrasions, injuries from equipment, or the possibility of serious injury resulting from accidents while driving and/or loading and unloading materials. Drives in all types of traffic and weather on public roads, and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds. The fork lift operator normally works outside in all kinds of weather and at times works inside in areas that are cold, damp, and drafty. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, fork lift trucks overturning, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment.
