Summary of Job

Installs and configures local area data communications networks which may carry data, voice and video communications following organization standards.

Full Description

To install, configure computer workstations, associated peripheral devices (printers, scanners, etc.), and local area networks. To operate computer systems, monitor systems performances, diagnose and solve computer related problems. Workstations systems include Windows and Apple equipment.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties:

Installs and configures local area data communications networks which may carry data, voice and video communications following organization standards.

Resolves computer systems problems to ensure user's access to City of Killeen systems.

Installs or repairs Windows or Apple computers with standardized applications and software, diagnoses and solves problems that develop in their operation.

Responds to user questions and explain the operation of computer systems and equipment as necessary.

Assists with the maintenance of standards and documentation.

Provides technical support, upgrades, repairs, and assistance, as needed, for local area network and stand-a-lone computer systems for all City Departments.

Assists the Network technicians with the installation and troubleshooting of Personal Computers stand-a-lone and Local Area Network based systems.

Installs software and other applications for day to day functions.

Reports to City of Killeen Information Technology - Enterprise Operations Manager for administration purposes and guidance.

Maintains close working relationship with all City of Killeen employees.

Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and comply with City of Killeen driving policy.

Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver's license, if required, and comply with City of Killeen driving policy accordingly.

Performs other related duties as required.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and; Three (3) years' experience in computer technical support, or;
  • Two (2) year college degree or equivalent semester hours in a computer related field; and One (1) year of experience with the operation of local area network and personal computer operations; or,
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A +, Security +, Network +, and Microsoft certifications, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information, both verbal and written, to a wide range of users.
  • Knowledge of PC, networking, hardware, and software installation and configuration of computer systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of various Windows and Microsoft Office versions.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory.
  • Working knowledge PC hardware, Printers, scanners, computer peripherals, and mobile devices (iOS, Android)
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to establish successful working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum of supervision.
  • Understanding of basic network troubleshooting.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee must have a valid Texas driver's license by date of hire.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Local area network file servers; personal computers, printers, and personal computer based software; hand tools; tape drive; telephone; fax and copy machines.
