Summary of Position
The Public Health Bureau has an opening for a half-time Occupational Therapist-Physical Handicapped Children (PHC) in the California Children’s Services (CCS) Program. The Occupational Therapist-PHC delivers a full range of occupational therapy services to physically handicapped children including evaluation, planning and providing OT treatment to children with physical disabilities. The Occupational Therapist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, physical and speech therapists, social workers, nutritionists, school personnel, and outside agencies to meet the therapy needs of the children served by the CCS Medical Therapy Program (MTP). The mission of the CCS MTP is to maximize the quality of life for special needs children through the provision of Physical and Occupational Therapy services including ongoing assessment, treatment and consultation to the child, family, and community.

The Eligible List established by this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis County-wide.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and methods of accepted occupational therapy, especially as applied to physically handicapped children.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic techniques commonly used in occupational therapy work; proper use and operation of modern occupational therapy equipment and appliances.
  • Ability to administer occupational therapy treatments and exercises.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and draw logical conclusions from data.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret physician’s orders for treatments and instructions for using adaptive equipment.
  • Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
  • Communicate orally in order to teach and instruct parents and children.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Pursuant to Section 512031 of Title 22 of the Administrative Code, incumbent must be a graduate from a curriculum in occupational therapy approved by the council on Education of the American Medical Association in collaboration with the American Occupational Therapy Association and shall be registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
  • Due to the sensitive nature of these positions, the Health Department reserves the right to fingerprint and conduct police background checks of appointees for some positions.
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings and some weekends or holidays during times of disaster or emergency.
